PowerPoint Templates overview
A PowerPoint template is a presentation you design once in real Microsoft PowerPoint and
reuse across reports. You place Qlik objects and tokens on the slides, and when a report runs,
KPImailer fills the presentation with live data and attaches the finished .pptx to the email.
It’s the slide-based counterpart to Excel templates - the same KPImailer add-in and the same live Qlik objects and tokens, but built on slides instead of worksheets.
This section covers installing the PowerPoint add-in, creating a template, designing slides with Qlik objects and tokens, repeating a slide per value, and attaching a template to a report.
Designing vs. delivery
Section titled “Designing vs. delivery”Two different requirements, worth separating:
- Designing a template needs the desktop PowerPoint app from a Microsoft 365 subscription, updated to Version 2504 (April 2025) or later. One-time-purchase, volume-licensed, and LTSC editions (Office 2019, 2021, and 2024) don’t include the PowerPoint capabilities the KPImailer add-in relies on, so they can’t design templates. See Installing the PowerPoint add-in for setup.
- Delivery happens on the KPImailer server. Every recipient gets the finished presentation regardless of which PowerPoint edition - or none at all - they have.
Shared with Excel templates
Section titled “Shared with Excel templates”Several controls work exactly as they do for Excel templates, so they aren’t repeated here - follow the Excel pages, applying them to slides instead of worksheets:
- Conditional rendering - for PowerPoint you gate an individual shape or a whole slide.
- Dynamic naming - name slides and the output file with tokens.
- Scope & filter overrides - give one placed object its own selections, independent of the report.
