Excel Templates overview

An Excel template is a workbook you design once in real Microsoft Excel and reuse across reports. You place Qlik objects and tokens where you want them, and when a report runs, KPImailer fills the workbook with live data and attaches it to the email.

This section covers installing the KPImailer Excel add-in, creating a template, inserting Qlik objects and tokens, repeating worksheets per value, conditional rendering, dynamic naming, and using a template inside a report.

Two different requirements, worth separating:

  • Designing a template needs the desktop Excel app on the computer you design from, from a Microsoft 365 subscription (any current version) or one-time-purchase Office 2021 or Office 2024. Office 2019 and Office 2016 can’t run the add-in. See Installing the Excel add-in for the details and setup.
  • Delivery happens on the KPImailer server. Every recipient gets the finished workbook regardless of which Excel edition - or none at all - they have.
